Affiliation with the UK Foundation Programme

The Malta Foundation School is affiliated to the UK Foundation Programme. This was first granted to the Malta Foundation School on being set up in 2009. This means that the Malta Foundation programme is the same Programme as the UK Foundation Programme and that the Foundation Programme Completion Certiificate (FPCC) is mutually recognised by both countries.

The Malta Foundation School was re-granted affiliation to the UK Foundation Programme on the 19th September 2011 for a further 5 years, after fulfilling the Quality standards of the Medical Council Malta and the UKFPO. In September 2014, after a further assessment, the affiliation of the Malta Foundation School and Programme to the UKFP was renewed for a further five years until September 2019.

A UKFPO Quality visit to the Malta Foundation School in March 2019 confirmed the affiliation status which was initially extended to September 2022, and most recently into 2023, whilst awaiting the next quality visit.

2009: At a ceremony celebrating this occasion at Mater Dei Hospital, Malta, Professor Derek Gallen Director of the UK Foundation Programme Office and Dr Stuart Carney Deputy Director signed a new Memorandum of understanding together with then Permanent Secretary of the Department of Health Dr Kenneth Grech and then Minister of Health the Hon Joseph Cassar, and presented the Malta Foundation School with the Certificate of Affiliation.
